Chlorinated polyvinyl chloride CPVC the material:

Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride or CPVC is modern age thermoplastic material which is produced by chlorination of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin. In this process, the chlorine gas is decomposed into free chlorine which is then reacted with PVC in post-production step, essentially replacing a portion of the hydrogen in the PVC with chlorine.

CPVC Pipes and Fittings as per ASTM D 2846 and IS 15778:2007

Ori-Plast uses totally imported pre-compounded CPVC 4120 resin to manufacture its pipes and fittings. CPVC 4120 is actually the standard designation code of material as specified in ASTM D 2846 and suitable to manufacture pipes and fittings. The last digits (i.e. 20) indicate the Hydrostatic Design Stress for water (i.e. 2000 psi at 730C) in the units of 100 psi. It is equivalent to 14.0 MPa at 230C. The “Long Term Hydrostatic Strength” of CPVC 41 is defined by Hydrostatic Design Stress of 3.5 MPa at 820 C.

Other advantages of CPVC Pipes and Fittings are:
  • The pipes are extremely light weight and hence are easy to carry and install.

  • They can withstand high temperature (820C) as well as high working pressure.

  • Just like PVC, CPVC pipes and fittings can be joined by Solvent Cement and hence does not require any special tools or skills to install. Remodeling or repairing of existing systems of other material can easily be carried out with CPVC pipes using suitable connector components.

  • The pipes and fittings are highly affordable alternative to both Copper and GI piping systems and also reduces the overall cost as well as maintenance cost over service life, for the house owners.

  • The pipes will not pit or corrode regardless of the pH level in the water. As such the CPVC pipes are highly popular in places with more aggressive soil or water and in concealed plumbing.

  • The heat loss from CPVC pipe is much less than from metallic pipe, making it a more energy efficient water supply system.

  • Due to lesser thickness than uPVC plumbing pipes as per ASTM D 1785, the inside diameter is higher and thus the rate of frictional per unit length in CPVC pipe is much lower. Hence the pipes can carry more water under similar situation.

Areas of Application of Ori-Plast CPVC Pipes & Fittings:
Residential Buildings Ori-Plast CPVC pipes can be widely used for indoor application in both cold and hot water supply and discharge in place of metallic pipes such as GI & Copper due to inherent resistance to corrosion and rusting which enhances the life of these pipes to a large extent.
Commercial Buildings Large office complexes where maintenance of plumbing systems poses problem to avoid disruption of daily activities, Ori-Plast CPVC pipes can be an ideal solution for the complete water supply system. It can be best described as a Fit and Forget system with nearly zero maintenance.
Hospitals and  Hotels Requirement of continuous and uninterrupted supply of hot water in addition to cold water makes Ori-Plast CPVC pipes an ideal choice both in terms of cost and life.
Industrial Unit

Being a good chemical and heat resistant piping material when compared to other thermoplastic materials, Ori-Plast CPVC pipes can be used in chemical factories and plants.

An exclusively specialized use of Ori-Plast CPVC pipes in industrial units is indoor piping for fire fighting through Sprinkler Nozzles. Ori-Plast CPVC pipes are highly flame retardant and better at preventing heat deflection, making it an ideal choice for the purpose. Ori-Plast CPVC pipes ensure that the Sprinkler Nozzles do not block due to effects of rusting and corrosion.
